Contract Phones and the Great Network Swindle

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Hanna]Michael Hanna Its familiar conversation amongst friends gathered in the pub on a Friday night. Someone got a new mobile phone which does this that and the other, but what a trauma they had to go through to get it. Their mobile phone contract was up for renewal and they were offered a package with 100 free minutes and 200 text messages per month. All well and good, but why is the same contract on offer to new customers with 200 free minutes for 6 months? Why am I, an existing network customer any different to a new customer? Why does my mobile phone contract have different rules and features than a new customer? Heads nod in agreement weve all been there. The major mobile phone networks appear so desperate to compete with their rivals for the affections of new customers that they seem to neglect their existing customers. What the networks fail to realise is that once your mobile phone contract is up then you become a new customer yourself and suddenly the networks are all salivating over the potential of your custom. Phone contract offers pour from newspapers, billboards, online adverts 200 free minutes, unlimited text messaging, the latest handsets all for 15 per month. All well and good, but how do you cut through the network propaganda and ensure that you get the best deal available? Well, its not as difficult as it might seem. The answer, as with most comparison shopping, lies online. Whilst the networks exert an obvious bias, resellers and aggregators online have no such standpoint. Resellers covering a number of major networks allow you to search and compare [http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/contractphones.html]contract phones to find the cheapest rate, best handset or contract features to suit your budget. These aggregator sites let you browse and select the best deal for you regardless of the contract provider and regardless of whether you are a new customer. Online resources are useful we have all had a dodgy handset at one time or another and the networks are not going to tell you that your new contract phone is a lemon. [http://www.reviewcentre.com]Handset reviews are readily available online to allow you to get an unbiased view on what you are getting for your money. When your phone contract is up for renewal and you feel that maybe the network is taking you for granted dont just accept the offer. Vote with your feet and compare mobile phone contracts online to get the best deal. If your current mobile phone network does not value your custom another one will, at least for a year! Why Having A Bridal Registry Is Essential

By Lesley-Ann Graham The wedding is set. The invitations have gone out. Now your family and friends are wondering what gift to get you. If you are going to start with absolutely nothing, your loved ones will have a lot of options on what to get you. The problem is you might end up with 10 oven toasters, 4 grills and a whole bunch of towels and beddings and not much more. What would you do with sets meant for a king size bed if you sleep on a double? Have mercy on your family and friends, as well as on yourselves. Please have a bridal registry. This is a great way to let them know what you really need and want to receive. Most stores now extend this service and actually have a staff member to help the happy couple prepare their list of preferred items. They will usually ask you to choose from a catalog or from actual items in the store which items you like and how many of each you’d like to receive. Don’t be shy about putting an expensive item on the list. It is the choice of the giver to give you the item. Knowing though that some of your guests may be working on a budget but still want to get you something you’ll love, choose an assortment of items across a wide price range. The best part of having a registry, if you end up having too many of the same item, some bridal registries will allow you to exchange the items for other items you prefer of an equal amount. Of course, only as long as the items were bought from their store. Have fun shopping! Slogan Writing the Easy Way

By Lynne Suzanne Picture the scene! Youre sat at home, leaning over the dining room table. Chewing your pen top, surrounded by receipts, entry forms, labels and all manner of comping paraphernalia. For the twenty-fifth time youve asked yourself why you want to win a trip to America to see a basketball game with XYG lager and still youre no closer to finding the answer. Sound familiar? Its no wonder you become disillusioned and disheartened. So what happens next? You can resort to sending in a revamped chestnut which has won countless prizes either in its original form or revamped, for instance: “Connoisseurs select them, promoter perfects them” “Experts select them, customers prefer them” That sort of thing! Or, perhaps like me, you simply make yourself a nice hot cuppa, switch on the TV and see whats been happening in your favourite soap. So, I thought, theres got to be a better way. Seek and you shall find. The answer came to me whilst ironing, of all things. Give your little grey brain cells a problem to work out, then instead of worrying, forget it, do some other task like gardening, ironing or cooking your lunch, and hey presto, when you least expect it, the answer pops into your head. So it was with slogan writing. My four steps to successful slogan writing are: brainstorm, phrases, tiebreakers, sparkling slogans. I have won cars and holidays using this method. Well, back to the ironing. Tedious job, but nevertheless, it was when inspiration struck. Instead of turning phrases round to see if they sound better in a tiebreaker, why not turn the whole slogan writing thing on its head. Instead of writing a tiebreaker slogan to fit a competition lead-in line, why not write a slogan and then simply wait for the right competition to come along. Eureka! Instantly the pressures off. How many times have you waited until the 29th of the month to hastily think up a slogan to fit a comp that closes on the 31st. Come on now. Confession time. Yes, of course you have. Me too. Far better, dont you think if you have ten or so wonderful slogans that youve spent time perfecting, from which to select one to fit that last minute competition. Wonderful. No more last minute rushes. No pressure. No bitten finger nails. Just excellent slogans when you want them. Purr-fect ! Oops, sorry, thats for my pet food comp! Just imagine, if judges have waded their way through thousands of fifteen word, rhyming slogans, which sound sleepily similar ZZZzzzzz. Oops nearly dozed off! Then wow! Your sparkling, short, snappy little number comes along. They sit up and take notice. “Hey Fred, listen to this.” “Thats our winner.” Magic words, eh? Thats what youre aiming for. Let me give you an example. My daughter decided she wanted to become a singer, “but”, she said. Why is there always a but? If youre a parent, youre probably no more nearer the answer than I am! “But what?” I ventured. “I cant afford the equipment.” “No worries”, I told her, “well win it, I said, more confident than I was feeling, when she gave me a three week deadline to win it. So we took ourselves off to the newsagents and bought four glossy music magazines. Out came Pun-ch Lines! snappy slogans. Under the “Music” heading, we selected one which fitted perfectly. The blurb in the text mentioned opera, classical music, golden oldies and catchy little tunes. “I want to sing using my new sound system because” “it would be a gold-en opera-tune-ity” 2,000 worth of music equipment later, what did she do. Promptly gave up singing! Daughters, whod have em! Lynne Suzanne is a competitions consultant, freelance writer and author of Win With Lynne Intaslogans, Pun-ch Lines! and Win Your Fortune in Prizes. Thank You, Ah Mah!

By Marsha Maung The rebel years are over. The phase of contradiction and compulsive behavior comes to a grinding but definitive halt. The act of pure impulse sometimes becomes impossible. Youre older. I must admit, even in front of my own parents, I have admitted that I have been nothing short of a hell-raiser. Running away from home, staying over at boyfriends face, kicking the hell out of my own sister, engaging in drunken cat-fights with friends, fist-fighting with my brother, word-battles with my father, thinking I was right when I was irrefutably wrong..the list can go on. Whatever a daughter can do wrong, I did. But these are the activities, decisions, and memories that have helped shape me into the person that I am today. I have 2 wonderfully amazing and perfect boys to call my own. They look up to me, adore me and even when I think I am a little psycho, they think I am hilarious! The innocence..I am not yet a perfect person today but I can proudly say that I have become closer to perfect….in my personal opinion, that is. Age does this to people. When people think I should keep a job, I left it. When people think I should not be in a relationship, I engaged in. When people thought I should just shut up, I spoke up. When people thought I should be more feminine, I kick out and punch around like a crazy woman on drugs! When people thought I should forgive, I am revengeful. When people think I should forget, I remember. Gosh, when people think I should remember (like where I placed my keys), I dont. With that said, I look at my own parents and wonder how many of my decisions have made them into the older people that they are. How many of my rebellions have added an extra crease to their foreheads? How many of my shouting matches have given my parents wrinkles and white hairs? Only when youre older, you realize that Heck, I wasnt such a smartass, was I? and there I was, all of 16, thinking I was adult-enough to make my own decisions. If I had a daughter like me, I would have done things to her (and/or myself) that I will live to regret!Thankfully, I dont. I dont have a daughter, period!! (Someone up there loves me, after all) I spoke very briefly on the phone with my aging and lonely grandmother today and this blog is a result of that conversation. To say I have regretted my actions and decisions when I was younger is an understatement. We all dont know how long she has to live on this planet anymore but one thing is for sure, it wont be for long. Oh, shes not really ill or anything. Shes happy (in a very lonely kind of way) and healthy (in an old kind of way) but she certainly has her own regrets as well. I guess a lot of the things that I did in the past were uncalled for and when she did things out of the goodness of her heart, I wasnt appreciative because I was too self-centered and obnoxious. I ruled the world, didnt I? I dont know how long more the tenure of her stay here on earth has before it expires, but I hope she will take good memories with her down or up to wherever shes going after the expiration of her stay here. Are You Engaged?

By Ian Christie You need to be aware of a significant career management danger. In this tough economy and job market, your professional expectations may be unmet. Whether it is job satisfaction, career development or job search success, things may not be going your way. When this happens, there is a natural tendency to disengage, to unplug. You go through the motions, but part of your mind is elsewhere; unfocused. You can instantly recognize people who are fully engaged. They are focused, working on what is most important at that time, and committed. And you can recognize those who are not. Which are you? Why your head should be in the game Here is what happens when you arent fully engaged. Your efforts are scattered. You dont do your best, which hurts you and hurts your employer, colleagues and clients. With one foot out the door and one in, you are dissatisfied which often negatively impacts your personal life. You are certainly not using your talents to their fullest. You are wasting your precious time and may be a productivity risk to your employer. You arent making a difference. In short, you are sabotaging your career. Certainly, we all have days when our motors just arent running at full speed. Thats fine. What you should be concerned with, however, is identifying if you are habitually disengaged, and if so, resolve to snap out of it. What can you do about it? 1. Diagnose yourself Take a page from Dr. Phil and accept reality. Is your head really in the game or not? Here are some statements to test yourself: * I am frequently or always dissatisfied with my work situation and I havent done anything concrete to resolve it * I tend to complain, put the blame on others, or I have developed a cynical attitude * I always have one foot out the door, keeping my options open, but never acting on them * I jump from job to job, assignment to assignment without really settling, or making a difference * I havent made a noticeable difference where I work or the projects I work on * My performance barely meets expectations, or worse * My mind wanders during my work day and I have trouble focusing and delivering on projects and responsibilities * I feel bested or outclassed by colleagues or customers when I am discussing work-related things. I dont have a lot to say. * My presentation is weak, sloppy or lacking direction * I dont have a plan as to what my next steps are from now, going forward If you answered yes to 1 or more of the above, then follow the remaining steps. 2. Try and figure out why One way to do that is to review your history. Is this the first time you have been in this situation or is it a recurring pattern? If the later, then the chances are that it is you rather than your environment. If the former, what is it about your current situation and environment that is causing it? 3. What choice can you make right now that will make a difference? A common reaction is to identify some large change and focus on that as the answer to our lack of engagement. If I only had this job, or worked for this company, then I would give 110%.” Maybe. But what about today? We choose how we react to our environment. What can you do today? Here are some things you can do: Change your attitude. A reality-check can do wonders in changing behavior. Refocus. Go deep. Overreact. Throw yourself into your work or job search. Do your best. Immerse yourself and see what happens. Identify what motivates you and focus on building that. See if you can inject more of those motivations into what you do. In particular, those things which align with the priorities of your employer, or your own business. Find the good in your situation. What can you identify about your job or situation that is positive? Be thankful for what you have. Identify what the key success criteria are for you, for your employer, colleagues and customers. Determine how you can be successful in the current environment and focus on that. 4. Medium-term strategies: Go internal. Build on what you have started in the short-term. How can you turn this situation around and be a rousing success story? Adjust your expectations. Goals can be energizing if we actively pursue them, or a real drag on our energy when we keep them alive without making progress towards their fulfillment. Resolve to pursue those goals that mean something to you and dump the rest. Make a change. If you need to make a change, do it. But, do it with determination, passion, and focus. Get help. If you recognize a long-standing pattern of behavior and believe that its roots run deeper than career management issues, then seek qualified, professional help. Special Advice for Job Seekers As a job seeker in a tough market, you need to be engaged on at least two levels. Obviously, the first level is applying yourself with focused determination to the process of the job search itself. The second level is less obvious. You must demonstrate that you are fully engaged in your industry, profession, or particular specialty. Believe me, you will stand out more if you ooze commitment to your profession. See Creating your own Opportunities for some ideas. Being engaged or not is the ultimate personal choice. It requires consistent, daily resolve to back it up. Not being engaged is self-sabotage. Know Your Man: Being A Sum of Parts

By Maria Moratto “I’m a human being all the time, even when I sleep. But I’m not a musician when I sleep, and I’m not a musician when I eat, unless I’m paying attention to music or talking about music.” ~ Herbie Hancock We need to understand that, unlike us, a man is a sum of his parts; it is the components that make the whole. By that I mean that, all the various parts of his life can be split off from each other, just like a book shelf: work in one shelf, relationships in another shelf, barbecuing in another shelf, sports in a fourth shelf, parenting in another, and so on. That means that depending on what activity he is involved in, he will not pay attention to us. We must remember this or we will suffer. I was once in this frame, absolutely in love with this man. Like me, he was a professor and one day, I entered in one of his classes, hoping he would pay attention to me, or send me looks of love, or say something… what was I thinking? Well, when the surprise of seeing me wore off “took him 5 seconds” he continued his lesson as usual, ignoring me entirely, as if I was not even there. I felt really bad thinking that he was angry at me and asking what had I done to deserve such treatment, and so and so forth. Stupid me; he was just being himself. And guess what? I followed him to his office so we could have a moment to ourselves and to my surprise, he kept working as hes always done, ignoring interference. You see, he was wearing his professor hat and not his lover hat and I failed to appreciate it. How many women do the same? I have seen too many examples of women not understanding that a man reacts differently according to each situation he is in. To avoid feeling ignored, lets leave him to his activity until he is ready to pay attention to us. A Word of Advice Ladies: Wait until he is wearing his lovers hat to demand attention and tenderness; otherwise, you will be very disappointed through no fault of his. Gents: When she complains of lack of attention, remind her that you will be happy to lavish her later, when the time is appropriate to do so.
