Sewing Tips: Sewing and Recycling Sheets Into Beautiful Home Dec Items

By Marian Lewis Sewing and recycling sheets into beautiful home dec items is a great way to decorate your home on a shoe string budget! It is really fun and easy to do sewing projects. Recycle old or use new sheets in all of your sewing whether making garments or home dec items. When you are in the middle of sewing a valance or drapery and you decide to line it, but nothing is suitable or large enough in your “stash,” use the next best thing . . . an old sheet. There is plenty of fabric in a sheet and you are probably never going to use that spotted or torn or stretched out old sheet as a sheet anymore anyway. Think about recycling some of your old sheets for linings and underlinings, etc. in your garments, too. Use old sheets to sew lots of things from pajamas and skirts to Halloween costumes and ironing board covers. Sheets are a great source of extra wide fabric and ideal for a lot of home decorating projects too. In fact, after the kids go back to school, why not redecorate your bedroom and bathroom with some new coordinated decorator sheets you can get when they go on sale. Sew a new shower curtain, window curtains, a table cover, throw pillows, shams, a duvet cover, bed skirt, lampshade cover, tissue box cover, etc. Who knows, you might even want to cover the seat on a vanity stool and decorate some towels with bands of fabric to help tie everything together. The possibilities are endless. These are quick and easy sewing projects. So, try it! Speaking of kids, how about using sheets to decorate the college kids’ dorm rooms? Don’t forget! They always need laundry bags! The guys might love a sports theme. Expecting a baby? Sew up nursery room items for the new little one. Let the toddlers, juveniles, and teens choose their own themes for their rooms. They love it! Get creative and sew up some fun! It just makes sense! 2006 Marian Lewis - All Rights Reserved 1st Step To Sewing Success Marian Lewis is a sewing instructor and the creator of an amazing new fitting method for hard-to-fit sewing folks. Depression and Society

By John Furnem Many of the people we know and meet every day have experienced some kind of depression in their lives, it is not always the clinical and sever depression that we understand to be very dangerous and naturally dramatic in life events, a lot of people experience mild and sometimes passing phases of depression. The understanding of how difficult it is to deal with depression once it hits is usually a part that is played only by those unfortunate enough to experience this mental condition, once a person realizes the effect a depression might have on a person they will immediately show great sympathy to anyone who is suffering any symptoms related to depression. In our day and age it is very common to refer to medicine in almost any case of discomfort or disease, our society nurtures the feeling that for every physical or mental condition or disorder there is a chemical answer that sets things right, and that the materialism of human nature is once that takes care of itself. The case with depression is different, not saying that depression is not treated by medicine because it has been treated with many different kind of chemical solutions for the last few decades, but there are more ways to fight and beat depression, and many of these ways are not medicine related. Many of the people who suffer depression in one part of their lives realize that this is a kind of condition that might return and hit them in later stages in life, this understanding makes depression patients seek answers that will have a significant effect throughout a long period of time. This is typical of people who suffered mild depression symptoms and overcame the depression with some psychological help and a lot of self work and efforts. Many want to keep living their life with a feeling that a non medical solution is available to keep depression from hitting again. Help for depression is widely available in most of the world, the awareness to the dangers and destructive power of depression disorders have increased the efforts to help depression patients fight this condition, from traditional therapy to many new and modern approaches to physical activity and social connections, solutions that have been showing fairly good results in many cases and encourage depression patients to keep working on depression prevention instead of relaying on the easy use of chemicals. The fact that depression can, in some mild and not clinical severe, be beaten and prevented on a regular basis using therapy and social connections, as well as physical exercise and workout routine, is very comforting for the many people who suffer mild depression around the world and that are not interested in developing any kind of dependency on chemicals and medicines for mental conditions. It is also said that the fact that depression patients are kept on a regular treatment and are aware of the reoccurring nature of depression phases is helping prevent and decrease the level of the depression frequency. Getting Your Money’s Worth

By Richard Hall Securing outside counsel is crucial to any business regardless of the industry or size. However, more than 60% of legal departments within businesses gave serious thought to firing outside legal support in 2001. The number one reason for this consideration was a problem with communication and response. Then when you consider the expense associated with outside counsel, along with a large movement of lawyers, the numbers of unhappy clients in the past five years have increased. One of the most important factors when hiring outside counsel is to do your homework, know the law firm, as well as what they represent. After all, establishing a secure relationship is a win-win situation for both parties. To ensure you work with the right outside counsel, you will need to measure services offered with price, communication, responsiveness, professionalism, and areas of expertise. Today, we see many large (and small) corporations consolidating services with outside law firms as a means of tightening up operations, and with great success. Okay, so what is the key to success when looking for and securing outside counsel? The formula is not difficult but it is precise. For starters, look for a law firm that wants and values your input. The foundation of a strong relationship is two-way communication. The firm should actively keep you abreast of changes, and concerns. However, communication is not simply conveying information but also listiening. In other words, if outside counsel does not take the time to listen to the client, to hear and understand potential risks and goals, then the relationship will never work. Law firms should take the time to learn about your companys technologies and capabilities. For example, every company has different needs. Whether legal support and advice, technology, or software choices, a law firm needs to take the time to understand the client, their business, the competitive threats and the opportunities. In this way, outside counsel would not only have a comprehensive understanding of your business but also your specific requirements to run that business. Outside counsel should also be fully vested in your financial interests. Their work plan should include ways to cut costs for your company while adding to or maximizing profitability. A good law firm committed to serving your needs, can add value to your operations by identifying ways that you could better utilize your internal systems, as well as their services. Good legal counsel can also aid you in growing your business. They would teach you about implementing systems, marketing, and using tactics for surviving against your competitors while also providing support in legal matters. Keep in mind that even if you were to find a law firm you liked, as a best practice meet with three, four, or five outside firms to make sure you choose wisely. A good law firm will show you ways of thinking outside the box, and using innovation to drive business results. Taking time to understand and clearly articulate your needs will facilitate your evaluation of options for outside counsel. You will develop a very specific set of criteria which you can use to objectively measure potential law firms. Doing so will ensure that not only have you chose a firm that is competent but one that partner with you in your business to achieve your specific goals. Being able to clearly communicate with your law firm will not only enable you to effectively evaluate them but will also set the tone for what will hopefully be a long term, mutually beneficial partnership. Divine Power/Jesus is over “Everything”

By Mellody Davis Divine power is so great, Paul an apostle of Christ Jesus says in 2Corinthians 10:3, For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. Now in many chapters of the Bible it says that Jesus is over everything, in Psalm 24:1 says, The earth is the Lords and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the sea and established it upon the waters. I recommend reading Philippians 2:5, it says Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness, and being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 7 Tips When Planning A Diet

By Andrew Gee The following article is one of a series of articles which focus on Self Improvement, Motivation and Empowerment. It is based on research done over twenty years as a personal and business coach. This self improvement article was written in response to questions which have been asked on losing weight and long term weight loss as well as address common challenges that people have with this subject. I sincerely hope that you find the following information of value. 7 Tips When Planning A Diet We have plans for everything these days. That is how we can fit 100 different things into each day. While to an extent this seems a bit over doing it, some things do need to be planned. I don’t know why we don’t plan our diets. I mean, we plan everything else. Some people even plan on when they will have sex. Hence, the birth of hump day. Why not spend a few minutes and plan out what you will eat? If you are reading this, you have the time so. So sit back and follow these seven easy steps. Don’t blink, if you do it will be over. It is really that simple. 1. Mini meals are great. They tell people with certain disease that they should eat several small meals each day. They say that a person should eat something every two hours. Well, that isn’t too impossible to do. I would suggest that you start out every four hours. Keep it like you normally would any of your other meals. Make sure you have your protein and your fiber. Have some veggies and some fruit to balance everything out. Don’t make your mini meal a bucket of fried chicken. I know that since it is a mini meal, the temptation doesn’t seem as great. I mean, if you only slip up in a mini meal, who is watching? These are a great way to avoid hunger and improper snacking throughout the day. Just make your mini meals up and eat them every time that you have planned. If you plan on eating every two hours, every two hours it is. It doesn’t take a road map to figure this out. 2. Don’t go over board. This is easier said than done. You need to have a specific amount that you are trying to reduce. If you are trying to reduce your meals by 10%, then you should stick to that. I’m not suggesting that you break out the calculator and count up every meal that you have. If you have been on a diet for very long, you already have a good idea how many calories things have. Don’t eat with your eyes, eat with your mind. That will help you cut down on the amount of food that you eat. 3. Eat good tasting food. From time to time let yourself go. Eat something that you know you shouldn’t. If you get it out of your system, it will be easier to maintain your diet. If on the other hand you don’t allow yourself to eat things you shouldn’t from time to time, all you will do is hurt yourself in the long run. You are going to nibble each day on those things instead of just eating them occasionally. ========SIDEBAR======== When it comes to the subject of self improvement, I fully understand (through my own experiences) that it is a lot easier said than done. However, you are here, right now, because you have a desire to improve your self or you are at least interested in this subject. Perhaps you are reading this to help a friend or colleague - great. If this article helps you or you help a friend, paying it forward is what lif’e all about so we all win. ======END SIDEBAR====== 4. Eat your calories, don’t drink them. Don’t fill up on sodas and other drinks. You can get all your calories for one day in these if you do it too much. A few sodas here. A few cups of hot chocolate there. A few beers here. You get the point. That will put on the pounds easily. 5. Exercise. You need to do this to keep fit. Not only will it keep you fit, but it will keep you mentally sharp as well. That can go a long way in helping you stick to a diet. If you are depressed, chances are you will end up eating fatty foods that will make you fat. When you consume all of that fat, it will make you more depressed. It is a bad cycle to start. 6. Make your meals last. Chew your damn food son! I bet you heard that one as a kid. Well, it is true. Don’t swallow your food. Instead, eat it slowly and enjoy the taste of it. If you do this, it will make you feel like you have actually ate something. If you swallow it down, you won’t get the same benefit. You will continue to feel a void. 7. Discover your food triggers. We all have these. When was the last time you went grocery shopping and you looked at a bag of cookies and realized that you had to have them? I do this sort of thing all the time. You need to understand what foods trigger your response system. If you can do this, you can avoid situations that will make you eat things that you shouldn’t eat. Well, that wasn’t so bad was it? There is no need to flip out when it comes to a diet plan. It is simple and easy. Just like anything in life, you should have a plan before you begin to do whatever it is that you are doing. The same is true with your diet. NOW is the time! O.K. you have read the article. Now is the time for action. Without action, this article adds no value whatsoever to your self improvement. But remember, without action, you cannot blame this self improvement article or any article for that matter. So, take action NOW. Even if only one piece of advice, one piece of information, one tip makes a difference, then the whole article has been worth it for all of us. NOW is the time! Low Carb Foods - What Fits in Your Low Carb Diet?

By Trevor Mulholland A person starting a low carbohydrate diet needs to know which types of food he or she should consume and which ones to shun. Getting a list of low carb foods sometimes fools people into thinking that the diet is a hard thing to do. Instead of thinking What cant I eat? you would be better off with a mindset that asks What CAN I eat? You will then discover that natural, low carb foods are in abundance everywhere! And you might just discover that youre not missing the food that you were regretting giving up a short time ago. Once you start your low carb diet, you will be pleased to discover the many things that you can keep on (and add to!) your shopping list. As a general rule, most high protein foods are allowable on your diet. So push your grocery cart to the meat section and feel free to plan meals that feature pork, beef, lamb, venison, and veal dishes. But be careful when it comes to processed meat; many of them are cured with chemicals or sugar, which can pack on the carbs. Mosey along over to the poultry section and think about recipes for chicken, turkey, duck, and pheasant. These are rich in protein and other nutrients (but not carbs) and can be cooked and served in many attractive and great-tasting ways. Want to take advantage of the bounties of the ocean and lakes? Choose from among fish and other seafood, which are also high in protein and fatty acids that are good for your heart. Feel like serving a salad as a side dish? Youll be pleased to know that most salad vegetables are allowed on low carb diets. And this is a good thing because you should be getting your carbohydrate quota from vegetables, not from junk food, not from starchy goodies. Although the intake of a number of fruits should be kept to a minimum, fruits like berries can be enjoyed without guilt. What about snack food? Snacks exist in a reduced-carbohydrate diet, too, but not the processed kind. Go au naturel nuts are perfect for something to munch on in between meals. Theyre high in protein and contain the much-praised good oils and fats. But what if youre the type of person whos all thumbs in the kitchen and cant even scramble some eggs? Youll be glad to know that there exist a wide variety of low carb convenience foods that will make your dieting life much easier. You can choose from juices, shakes, protein bars, morning cereals, pancakes and pancake syrup, baking mixes, cookie mixes, low carb bread and related products, even low carb chocolate cake and cheesecake! Dairy products are encouraged in low carb diets. Most cheeses can be enjoyed either by themselves as a snack or as an ingredient in dishes. But keep in mind that cheese contains carbohydrates, so you should limit your portions. Eggs are perhaps one of the main staples of the controlled-carb dieter; they are high in protein, have no carbs, and are very versatile. Plus, theyre inexpensive, too! Drinking milk is also a good idea; its a good source of calcium. But if you are lactose-intolerant, it would be a good idea to drink milk in small quantities periodically until you find that you no longer have any adverse reactions to it. Eating out also used to be a problem for low carb dieters. Restaurant staff didnt have a clue about the carb content of food. Today however, many dining establishments have taken measures to accommodate carb-counting consumers. A number of them even list what type of low carb foods they offer and the nutritional information of each dish. Do you want a hamburger without the buns? A salad with low carb dressing? All of these and more are possible today. As you have perhaps realized, finding low carb foods is not at all that hard, especially the natural ones. In fact, its entirely likely that you have been consuming these foods all your life without realizing that they are suitable for weight loss or weight maintenance. And if you concentrate on these foods, youll probably find that you wont have time anymore to bemoan and worry about carbohydrate-rich foods that you have had to give up. Carb-club.com provides you with information on all kinds of issues like low carb foods and diets like the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet, the Zone diet, and more. Getting A Foot In

By Vlady Peters While we bewail the lot of women, courtship for men wasnt always a picnic either, especially in times where he had to make all the moves, and could end up with egg on his face. Thats why for a long time, the matchmakers were so popular. They could make the initial foray into the enemy country, and only after finding the inhabitants not unfriendly, was the young man given the go-ahead. The young man was aware, that this early indications of interest, did not mean a definite victory. Not wishing to risk public ridicule, he would sally forth, with the matchmaker at his side, to the house of his beloved, always at night. He explained the hour to himself, by pointing out that spirits were ever jealous of human happiness, and the less the spirits saw, the better for all concerned. But really, he just didnt want everyone to know if his visit turned out to be a complete disaster. Once inside the house, the suitor would produce a bottle of vodka, with a red ribbon and flowers tied around it. He would ask for a glass from the girl he was after. The girl would leave the room. If interested, she would be back in a twinkling of an eye, carrying a glass in her eager little hands. There would be a drink of vodka all around, and generally everyone would become friendly and chatty. On the other hand, if the clock was ticking and ticking, and the was no sign of the girl and the house consisted of two and a half rooms - the young man could assume that he hadnt passed the test. If he continued to sit there like a stunned mullet, hoping against hope that the young miss would come back any old minute, one of the more venerable members of her family would very courteously stand up, walk to the door, open it wide, and throw a very meaningful look at the suitor. Loath though he was to do it, the young man had no option but to pick up his unwanted vodka, and take his leave. If however, his vodka had been happily consumed, he would be back for another visit, with another bottle of vodka several days later. This time, however, there would be not only drinking, but also eating, and general rejoicing. However, it was up to the lady, to decide whether she was ready for a commitment. If she, herself, took a sip of the vodka, and passed her glass to the gentleman, and he took a sip as well, it was as good as a ring on the finger. If, on the other hand, this second meeting didnt go as well as the first one, and there was no sip of the vodka by the intended, then it was assumed that negotiations were at end. In order to make this quite clear, without having to actually spell it out, instead of serving the suitor something delectable, he would be served what is know as the black soup, being a broth with a dollop of ducks blood and the addition of sugar and vinegar. One look at the black mass, and the suitor knew hed been rejected, and could stop wasting his good vodka. Living And Coping With Arthritis - How To Stay Active And Independent

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richard_Clement] Richard Clement Arthritis pain can be frustrating.Nagging and crippling arthritis pain can continue day after day. How much happier would you be if you could stop your arthritis pain right now and feel great all day? Knowing the nature of the disease can really bring you the right answers. What is arthritis ? Arthritis comprises over 100 different diseases and conditions. The word arthritis means “joint inflammation”. When joints are inflamed, it causes pain and usually also limits movement of the joints that are affected. For many people, arthritis pain has a large impact on their life. Arthritis is second only to heart disease as a cause of work disability. Arthritis limits everyday activities such as walking, dressing and bathing for more than 16 million Americans. Each year, arthritis results in 750,000 hospitalizations and 36 million outpatient visits. Arthritis is not just an old persons disease. Nearly two-thirds of people with arthritis are younger than 65 years including nearly 300,000 children. Arthritis affects children and people of all racial and ethnic groups but is more common among women and older adults. The disease can affect different parts of the body. Two of the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease in which the joint lining becomes inflamed as part of the bodys immune system activity. RA is one of the most serious and disabling types, affecting mostly women. Rheumatoid arthritis is two to three times more common in women than in men and generally strikes between the ages of 20 and 50. Both sides of the body are usually affected at the same time. Symptoms of RA differ from person to person but can generally include: Joint tenderness, warmth, and swelling. Pain and stiffness lasting for more than 1 hour in the morning or after a long rest. Joint inflammation in the wrist and finger joints closest to the hand . Fatigue, an occasional fever, and a general sense of not feeling well . Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. It is a degenerative joint disease in which the cartilage that covers the ends of bones in the joint deteriorates, causing pain and loss of movement as bone begins to rub against bone. OA commonly affects the joints of the fingers, knees, hips, and spine. Osteoarthritis is more common in older people because they have been using their joints longer. Using the joints to do the same task over and over or simply using them over time can make osteoarthritis worse. Younger people can also get osteoarthritis. Athletes are at risk because they use their joints so much. People who have jobs that require the same movement over and over are also at risk. Injuries to a joint increase the risk of arthritis in the joint later on. Excess weight can accelerate arthritis in the knees, hips and spine. The most common symptom of Osteoarthritis is pain in the affected joint(s) after repetitive use. Joint pain is usually worse later in the day. There can be swelling, warmth, and creaking of the affected joints. Symptoms of OA may greatly vary. Some patients can be debilitated by their symptoms. On the other hand, others may have remarkably few symptoms in spite of dramatic degeneration of the joints apparent on x-rays. Symptoms also can be intermittent. These 2 forms have very different causes, risk factors, and effects on the body, yet they often share a common symptompersistent joint pain. What are the causes of arthritis ? Primary OA is mostly related to aging. With aging, the water content of the cartilage increases and the protein makeup of cartilage degenerates. Repetitive use of the joints over the years irritates and inflames the cartilage, causing joint pain and swelling. Eventually, cartilage begins to degenerate by flaking or forming tiny crevasses. Inflammation of the cartilage can also stimulate new bone outgrowths (spurs) to form around the joints. Sometimes osteoarthritis follows an injury to a joint. For example, a young person might hurt his knee badly playing soccer. Then, years after the knee has apparently healed, he might get arthritis in his knee joint. RA is an autoimmune disease. This means the body’s natural immune system does not operate as it should; it attacks healthy joint tissue, initiating a process of inflammation and joint damage. RA is a type of chronic arthritis that occurs in joints on both sides of the body (such as hands, wrists or knees). This symmetry helps distinguish RA from other types of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs most frequently in the 30-50 age group, although can start at any age. It is strongly associated with the HLA marker DR4 - hence Family history is an important risk factor. The disease affects Females:Males in a 4:1 ratio. Other conditions can also cause arthritis. Some include: Gout, in which crystals build up in the joints. It usually affects the big toe. Lupus , in which the body’s defense system can harm the joints, the heart, the skin, the kidneys, and other organs. Viral hepatitis ,in which an infection of the liver can cause arthritis. What can you do about it ? Some people may worry that arthritis means they won’t be able to work or take care of their children and their family. Others think that you just have to accept things like arthritis. While there is not yet a cure for arthritis, much can be done today to reduce pain and boost joint function. Learning how to manage pain over the long term is essential to maintaining a good quality of life. There are things you can do to keep the damage from getting worse. They might also make you feel better. Here are some simple things to do: Lose weight if you’re overweight Exercise regularly for short periods. Going for a walk every day will help, too. Use canes and other special devices to protect your joints. Avoid lifting heavy things. Don’t pull on objects to move them-push them instead Use heat or cold to reduce pain or stiffness. The pain and disability that accompany arthritis can be decreased through early diagnosis and appropriate management. So if you have persistent symptoms lasting more than several days go see your doctor. The doctor will examine you and may take x rays (pictures) of your bones or joints to decide if you have arthritis and what kind you have. After the doctor knows what kind of arthritis you have, he or she will talk with you about the best way to treat it. The doctor may give you a prescription for medicine that will help with the pain, stiffness, and inflammation. The good news is that now there is a way to stop your pain with a medication . Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), specifically a COX-2 inhibitor, which relieves pain and swelling (inflammation). It represents a huge breakthrough in the treatment of pain, inflammation, and stiffness of arthritis. Celebrex is believed to fight pain and inflammation by inhibiting the effect of a natural enzyme called COX-2. Unlike the older medications, however, it does not interfere with a similar substance, called COX-1, which exerts a protective effect on the lining of the stomach.Celebrex doesnt cause the stomach bleeding and ulcers that traditional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) might.
